Thornton woman accused in East Oak Grove Cemetery theft

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Detectives from the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department have arrested a Taylor County woman in connection with the embezzlement of funds from the East Oak Grove Cemetery in Morgantown.

Tammy Spring, 59, of Thornton, was arrested Friday and charged with embezzlement, document forgery, and fraudulent schemes after a year-long investigation.

Detectives said Spring began a pattern of financial impropriety in February 2019 and continued through September 2023.

Spring has been arraigned and is being held on a $80,000 bail in the North Central Regional Jail.

Detectives are still looking for information from the public. Information about burial plots, buried a loved one, or transactional disputes with Tammy Spring at the East Oak Grove Cemetery between 2019 through 2023 are asked to call 304-291-7260.
