CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A murder, crash and fire produced a deadly 24-hours in the Mountain State.
Charleston police say a man identified as Ethan Chic-Colbert, 34, of St. Albans was murdered on the city’s East End early Sunday morning. Police are still looking for the shooter.
Chic-Colbert served several years in prison after being convicted in a 2012 domestic assault case. He severely beat his girlfriend on the side of Interstate 77 in Charleston. The woman’s 11-year-old son Jahlil Clements got out of the car to run for help. He was struck by a vehicle and died.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation into a fatal crash that happened Sunday morning on Interstate 77 near the Silverton exit. One person was killed and four people injured. The wreck occurred in the northbound lanes.
The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a deadly fire that took place Sunday evening in Parkersburg. The victim was found inside a burning home on Hill Street. Flames were showing when crews arrived on the scene.
There’s no word yet on what started the blaze.
