Lincoln County couple indicted after 2-year-old child drowns

HAMLIN, W.Va. — A Lincoln County couple was indicted Tuesday in relation to the 2024 drowning death of their daughter.

Tara Adkins, 25, and Jack Parsons Jr., 31, were indicted on charges of child neglect resulting in death and gross child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury in the drowning death. Their two-year-old daughter drowned in a pond in June 2024.

The incident took place along Scary Creek Road near Hamlin. The couple’s two-year-old daughter and a three-year-old boy were found in a pond by Parsons and State Police were called.

Parsons told state investigators that he was doing yard work and thought the two children were inside their home when Adkins asked where they were.

The children were each rushed to the hospital where the daughter was pronounced dead. The three-year-old boy was in stable condition.

Both Adkins and Parsons are being held on $35,000 bonds.
