Fayette County hires new school superintendent

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — The Fayette County Board of Education has hired Summers County School Superintendent David Warvel for its superintendent’s opening.

The board voted Tuesday night to hire Warvel will replace Gary Hough who is retiring on June 30.

Warvel, a previous employee of Fayette County Schools, has been in Summers County since 2020.

Details of the contract are still being finalized.

The Fayette County BOE also voted to approve a construction bid for the new elementary school to be constructed at the Midland Trail High School site.

An $18.5 million bid from Mercer County-based Swope Construction was approved. The project will be funded by a combination of funds from the state School Building Authority and the school system.

The board also approved a $3.2 million construction bid for a new baseball/softball complex at Midland Trail.
