Justice says there’s an overreaction to Signal war plan leak

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. Senator Jim Justice believes everything will be “fine” after the recent leak of classified information from members of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet.

On Monday, it was reported that Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of the Atlantic, was included in a group thread on a messaging app that had classified information regarding a military strike on Houthi rebels in Yemen. Included in the thread was Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Secretary of State Rubio, and Trump’s national security adviser Mike Waltz.

The messages were shared on Signal, a messaging app that is not affiliated with the U.S. Government.

Justice, who appeared on “MetroNews Midday” with Dave Allen and Amanda Barren, said this isn’t a good situation, but

“It’s something that no one is happy with, but at the same time, I don’t think we’ve been compromised at all,” Justice said. “I think everything will be fine and I think we’re kind of overreacting to some degree.”

The messages reportedly included attack plans and when and where they would take place. Hegseth said in a brief interview following the leak that Goldberg was a “deceitful and highly discredited so-called journalist.”

Meanwhile, Trump has said that there was no classified information that was shared.

Justice says if there was more of a concern from the president, then the nation would know it was a problem.

“I will promise you that if he absolutely were upset about it, we’d all be hearing about it,” Justice said. “I just think we’re overreacting to a degree.”
