PARKERSBURG, W.Va. –A grant being given to the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation in order to continue helping those who struggle with drug addiction.
Governor Patrick Morrisey was at Parkersburg Correctional Center and Jail to announce a $231,894 Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Program grant. He was joined by Lance Yardley acting commissioner for WVDCR and Rob Cunningham, Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security.
Morrisey said that the goal of this grant is to enhance those programs that aim to help those addicted to drugs.
“And the goal behind this is to really enhance the residential substance abuse treatment programs for inmates to break the cycle of drug addiction and crime,” he said.
The money will be used for substance abuse services in Beckley, Charleston, Denmar, Huttonsville, Lakin, Parkersburg, Pruntytown, Salem, St. Mary’s Correctional Center and substance abuse treatment units at regional jails across the state.
Cunningham said that they received tremendous support from Morrisey and the legislature to help combat the drug epidemic.
He said that with the continued support it will allow them to continue what they’ve been doing.
“With yall’s continuous support we will continue to work as hard as we have been,” Cunningham said.
Yardley said that the division is extremely appreciative of the grant because it allows them to provide these vital programs to inmates who struggle with addiction.
“These programs are vital for our offender population who face the challenges of addiction and without adequate support like this many may struggle to find their way to recovery,” Yardley said.
