Father’s Day flood watch in West Virginia

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Meteorologists with the National Weather Service have put most of West Virginia under a flood watch beginning at noon on Father’s Day.

The flood watch covers most of the state. (NWS image)

The watch, which runs through Sunday evening, comes with a chance for heavy thunderstorms in the forecast.

“Several rounds of heavy rainfall will be possible today, with accumulations between 1 and 2 inches, up to 3 inches of rain in localized areas,” the NWS said. “With rainfall rates between 1 and 2 inches per hour possible, flash flooding will be a threat.”

Sunday’s watch follows a soggy Saturday in many areas. There was at least one water rescue reported in Hampshire County.

Chances for rain are also in the extended forecast.

The only counties not listed under the flood watch are the Ohio River counties south of Parkersburg through the southern coalfields and Jefferson, Morgan and Berkeley counties in the Eastern Panhandle.
