After previous efforts to keep the media out of the courtroom, Maroney entered the plea Wednesday in Marshall County Magistrate Court that maintains his innocence but still acknowledges the prosecution likely has enough evidence to reach a conviction.

Glen Dale police had accused Maroney of committing an act self gratification while he was playing a video lottery machine.

The case was scheduled to go to a jury trial next Wednesday.

Maroney was fined $250 and sentenced to time served. He was ordered to serve seven days in jail after violating the terms of his bond after not complying with an order to attend and pay for drug rehab. He has also spent 30 days under home confinement.

Maroney still faces a separate criminal complaint related to an incident in September 2024 where he was accused of DUI while driving in McMechen.

A magistrate jury trial for the charge is scheduled for Sept. 3.
