BECKLEY, W.Va. — A Beckley company has alerted the state that it plans to eliminate 279 coal mining jobs at 9 sites in five southern West Virginia counties in the first week of August.
Loot Press is reporting Civil LLC has notified the state of the permanent layoffs.
The layoffs are the latest in what’s been a tough couple of months for the coal industry in West Virginia. A number of companies have announced cuts including Core Natural Resources which recently announced plans to layoff 200 workers at the Itmann mine in Wyoming County.
The CV2 Mine in Fayette County will take the biggest hit with 135 mining jobs being cut and 20 more at the prep plant.
There will be 44 jobs sliced at the Delbarton Prep Plant in Mingo County and 33 jobs at the Eagle Energy Mine in Kimberly.
The cuts by Civil are smaller at a handful of other operations in Mingo, Logan, Fayette and Boone counties.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
