CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — This week President Trump announced a list of appointments to federal prosecutor positions across the country including the two positions in West Virginia. Moore Capito was appointed to the position in the Southern District of West Virginia and Matt Harvey, the current Jefferson County prosecutor, was appointed to the role in the Northern District of West Virginia.

Harvey, speaking to MetroNews Affiliate WEPM in Martinsburg, said it’s not job he ever thought he would have.
“I wouldn’t have dreamed it. When I graduated law school, I had no intentions of practicing in criminal law as a prosecutor or a defense attorney, but here we are. Twenty years later I did not ever think I’d want to be a courtroom lawyer, but it ended up what I loved to do,” said Harvey.
Harvey says he shared the moment with his family in Monroe County where he grew up.
“It was so much more meaningful to be amongst my family and be at the place that formed the foundation that I still rely on,” Harvey said. “It’s hard to articulate how special that part was. My parents are very proud.”
Harvey admitted it would be hard to walk away from elected position in the Jefferson County where he enjoyed his co-workers as well as the people he served.
He and Capito will now face confirmation by the U.S. Senate but doesn’t know what the timeline will be on that process.
