Police: Juveniles arrested on gun charges at Sternwheel Regatta

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Police said two juveniles were arrested on gun charges Saturday night at the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta.

A news release from Charleston Police said officers were made aware of a disturbance involving a gun at around 9:30 p.m. at the corner of Kanawha Boulevard and Court Street.

“Multiple officers responded and noticed three males running north on Court Street,” the news release said. “Witnesses advised law enforcement the males had firearms in their possession. Officers from CPD were able to detain three juveniles in the area of Court Street and Quarrier Street.”

Two of the boys were charged with being a minor in possession of a firearm and having a stolen firearm. One of them was also charged with wanton endangerment with a firearm.

CPD said its Regatta detail responded quickly to the incident and resolved it within minutes. There were no injuries.

The incident occurred during the third night of Regatta where thousands had gathered for a free concert featuring Busta Rymes.

The Regatta concludes Sunday.
