Former coffee shop owner sentenced to several years behind bars for sex crimes

LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. –A former Logan County coffee shop owner will spend five years behind bars after previously pleading guilty to three criminal charges in April.

Michael Cline

Michael Cline, who was the owner of Hot Cup Coffee in Logan, was sentenced to two years on each of the two counts of distribution and exhibition of material depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, which will run concurrent with each other.

He was then sentenced to three years for the one count of distribution and display of obscene matter to a minor, that will run consecutively to the other sentence.

In February 2023, Cline’s shop was raided by West Virginia State Police and arrested Cline. He was previously charged with one count each of first-degree and second-degree sexual assault and two counts of distributing and possessing child pornography.

According to court filings, the victim had told State Police that she was engaged in a personal relationship with Cline between November 2015 until October 2019.

The victim also stated that when she turned 18, she had sent Cline about 100 nude photos and about 30 graphic videos of herself through Facebook Messenger, in which some of them she was underage.

Cline’s sentences will be followed by 15 years of supervised release. He will also have to register as a sex offender.
