MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Former U.S. Senator Joe Manchin will release a memoir in September called Dead Center: In Defense of Common Sense.
Manchin’s book tour will begin in Morgantown Friday, Sept. 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the Diversified Energy Terrace at Milan Puskar Stadium on the campus of West Virginia University. The discussion will be moderated by retired MetroNews “Talkline” host Hoppy Kercheval. The book will be released Sept 16.
Manchin, 77, left the Senate last year after deciding not to run for re-election. He changed his registration from Democrat to Independent during his final year in office.
Manchin has branded himself as a “political maverick” and often faced criticism from fellow Democrats for his focus on common sense, not the party line.
In the book, Manchin talks about how his West Virginia roots have taught him to find dignity in work and to treat people with respect while being socially compassionate.
The forward of the book is penned by fellow Marion County native and NCAA college football hall of fame coach Nick Saban.
