MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Listeners and sponsors of WVRC Media have delivered again for kids.
The two-day 2025 WVRC Media Cares for Kids Radiothon with WVU Medicine Children’s brought in more than $224,000 from donors and sponsors.
Nine WVRC Media stations did live broadcasts from the Morgantown-based hospital Thursday and Friday.

“Our annual WVRC Media Cares for Kids Radiothon, now on it’s third year, hit a record donation goal of $224,208 dollars thanks to the generosity of listeners and businesses around the states of West Virginia and Maryland,” 102 WVAQ Program Director & On Air Radio Personality Matt Kelly said. “This year’s event really focused on even more live interview with patients and their families, plus various staff of the hospital. It’s so amazing to see how this event has grown over the years. I’ve been fortunate to be a part of it in it’s many iterations since joining WVRC media in 2010. The amount of work and love that is poured into this event from all of our radio staff, to the fine folks of WVU Medicine and Children’s Miracle Network…it truly is what this great state is all about. As a native West Virginian, I’m an continually humbled by the efforts all around, including the generosity of all the donors. It truly is something special.”
Robb Reel, on-air personality with 96.1 KWS Superstar Country in Charleston, said he continues to be amazed by those who give and those being treated at WVU Medicine Children’s.
“The only thing more inspiring and energizing than the way West Virginians come through for West Virginians is the way these kids smile as they share their stories,” Reel said.
V100 Program Director and On-Air Personality Logan Scott said he was humbled by the support.

WEPM Radio News Director Marsha Chwalik said it was an inspiring two days.
“We were honored to hear so many stories from families and children whose lives have been touched — sometimes even saved— by the dedicated professionals and the incredible support staff at WVU Medicine Children’s.”
“One of the children got emotional when she shared her story with us. ‘They saved my life. They’re my friends.’
“We are grateful for every listener who gave, the sponsors who made it possible, and the wonderful families who shared their stories.
“As a mom who had a NICU baby, I am keenly aware of how important proactive, state-of-the art medical care delivered with compassion can be. We heard time and time again that is exactly what these families receive here,” Chwalik said.
Rise and Shine with Rona host Rona Mensah was also excited with the results.
