Morgan County law enforcement officer arrested, charged with domestic battery

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — A member of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested for domestic battery.

Morgan County Sheriff Johnnie Walter announced in a news release that Deputy Christopher Roper was arrested Wednesday morning after state police responded to a disturbance. Roper, a corporal within the county sheriff’s office, was charged with one count of domestic battery. The sheriff’s office placed him on administrative leave following his arrest.

He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Wednesday.

The Morgan County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has asked for a special prosecutor in the case.

Roper is free on $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
