Former Wheeling Park baseball coach Steve Myers has died

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Former Wheeling Park High School head baseball coach and alumnus Steve Myers passed away on Wednesday.

Myers had deep baseball roots in the northern panhandle. He was a catcher during his playing days at Wheeling Park and he later played and coached at West Liberty. Myers graduated from West Liberty in 1997.

From 2006-2011, Myers served as an assistant coach at Wheeling Park. In 2019, Myers was named the head coach of the Patriots. In the first season leading his alma mater, he led WPHS to the Class AAA Region I championship with a 20-10 record and a spot in the state tournament.

Myers continued to lead the Patriots until his resignation following the 2025 season. In six seasons, Myers posted a 111-61 record. He led Park to Ohio Valley Athletic Conference 5A Championships in the 2021 and 2023 seasons. The Patriots won 23 games in 2025, advancing to the Class AAAA regional round.

Myers’ former assistant coach, Chad Stout, was promoted to head coach in July.

Myers was also on assistant coach for the Wheeling Park golf team.

Myers was also a standout football player for the Patriots. He played fullback on the 1991 team that finished 12-2 as the Class AAA state runner-up.
