CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — A man was seriously injured after being hit by a car in Charles Town Friday morning, and police have charged the man they believe hit him with attempted murder.
Charles Town Police were called to the scene of a crash in the 100 block of North Charles Street just before 9 a.m. Friday.
There they found a man who had been struck by a vehicle and had sustained serious injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The vehicle involved was found in Kearneysville along with the driver, identified as 24-year-old Dustin Shawn Weister.
Investigators believe the two had been in an argument off East Washington Street which turned into a physical altercation on East Congress Street prior to the hit and run.
“Based on the facts of this investigation, this incident is believed to be a targeted attack,” according to the CPD press release.
Weister has been charged with malicious assault, attempted murder, leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury and destruction of property.
Weister was arraigned in front of a Jefferson County Magistrate and was last reportedly lodged in the Eastern Regional Jail.
