Concord University announces metro tuition extension for Virginia students

ATHENS, W.Va. — Concord University is extending their metro tuition for students from Virginia.

In a news release Thursday afternoon, the university announced the Board of Governor’s approved of a measure that gives Virginia students in-state tuition.

The new rate will only apply to first time undergraduate applicants from Virginia and will not take effect until the fall 2026 term.

The Two State-One Rate campaign is set to cut the tuition and fees for Virginia students to roughly $9,464. This helps bolstered the university’s position as one of the most affordable options in the Appalachian regional, Concord said.

“We are thrilled to extend a metro tuition rate to our neighbors in Virginia. Many of our Virginia students live less than 20 minutes from our beautiful campus, and this initiative ensures they can access a high-quality, affordable education close to home,” CU’s President Bethany Meighen said. “This new rate reflects our commitment to expanding opportunity, supporting regional growth, and welcoming more students into the Mountain Lion family.”

As well as expanding their metro tuition, the CU Foundation and institutional aid annually disburse more than $3.6 million in scholarship, which has resulted in the lowest student-loan debt of any state university in West Virginia.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for students and families to take advantage of all the exciting things happening on our beautiful campus. Affordability has always been a major factor of why students choose Concord, and now we’re thrilled to extend that same value and opportunity across the state line,” Chief Enrollment Management Officer Tammy Brown said.
