HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Amazon Customer Service Center will be closing next May, according to a company representative.
While not much information has been released about the company’s long-term plans for the facility, it has been reported that all associates will keep stay employed. Workers will retain their positions, wages, and current benefits, but will work in a virtual capacity.
Most jobs at the Huntington facility have been customer support and logistics roles.

Huntington Mayor Patrick Farrell released a statement Thursday regarding the announcement. He says the closure isn’t a reflection of a poor location.
“I have been in contact with leadership at both Steel of West Virginia and Amazon. Each is adjusting to new market realities. Steel of West Virginia by investing $30 million to modernize their rolling mills, and Amazon by restructuring how it serves customers nationwide,” Farrell wrote.
“These changes aren’t happening because of where they are located; they are happening because of market dynamics. The foundations that make this city a great place to do business remain the same: dependable infrastructure, affordable costs, and people who take ownership of their work. Operating here means lower energy, labor, and real estate costs than most of the country,” he continued.
