GW improves to 15-0 with 65-45 win over Parkersburg South

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — With 11 wins by double figures in their first 15 games of the season, the George Washington Patriots have firmly established themselves as Class AAAA title contenders as the state’s only remaining undefeated team in the largest classification. GW (15-0) secured another signature victory in a 65-45 triumph over a Parkersburg South team that came to South Hills with an 8-1 record.

“I just watched them take down the Big Reds of Parkersburg. That’s a rivalry game and they came out on top. They are a very talented team, a young team, but a very talented team that will have a lot to say in regionals coming up towards the end of the season,” said GWHS head coach Jaime LaMaster on South.

GW scored the first seven points of the game in a wire-to-wire victory. Leading 15-11 in the opening minute of the second quarter, GW went on a 18-1 run to build a 33-15 halftime lead.

“That first half defensive effort was probably the best I have seen them play since the opener with Cabell Midland.”

Junior guards Rayana Breckenridge and Jeriyah Pryor combined for 43 of GW’s 65 points. Breckenridge led all scorers with 22 points while Pryor added 21.

“Their quickness, their speed and their hands, they need a step and they can get their hands on the ball.

“This is a very, very, very unselfish team. A lot of coaches say it and it is not just coach speak, this team truly cares that we just have one more point on the scoreboard. Sometimes, we say that the outcome is a distraction. They move the ball well and they share the ball well. There’s always that one extra pass.”

GW is 7-0 in Mountain State Athletic Conference play and they are closing in on a spot in the MSAC title game.

“I can always find something to improve on. Probably tonight, I didn’t think we rebounded the ball exceptionally well. But I always think that until I watch the film. Then it is like, well, we rebounded better than I thought we did.

“If this team continues to improve, stays together and stays healthy, I think the future is bright for them right now.”

Lindsey Logston led South with 13 points while Quinn Bolyard chipped in with 10.
