MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A year after winning the Big 12 regular season championship, the West Virginia baseball team has been picked third in the 2026 Big 12 Preseason Poll as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
TCU leads the poll after garnering 13 of the 14 first-place votes. Arizona is second. The Wildcats received the other first-place vote.
The third place prediction for the Mountaineers is the highest since joining the Big 12 Conference 14 years ago.
Junior right-handed pitcher Chase Meyer represented the Mountaineers on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team. In 2025, Meyer went 9-2 with a 3.94 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 48.0 innings while holding opponents to a .192 batting average.
West Virginia won the Big 12 regular season championship in 2025 and the Mountaineers advanced to NCAA Super Regional play for the second consecutive season.
The Mountaineers open the season on February 13 at Georgia Southern.
