CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. –The Cabell County Board of Education is still reviewing applications from candidates seeking to become the next superintendent of schools.
The board met Monday afternoon to discuss who should take on the position. Members said six people have applied. The search comes after current Superintendent Tim Hardesty announced he will retire at the end of the school year.
Members spent most of the meeting discussing whether to announce the names of the six candidates but choose not to announce their names. However, there was some discussion about what board members are looking for in an applicant before going into executive session.
Board President Josh Pauley said there are a couple of things he is looking for during the search.
“Looking for somebody that has foundational knowledge of the full scope of district operations including fiscal management, data-driven decision making, I’m looking for someone who has very high character, career long demonstration of integrity, resilience, ethical transparent behavior,” Pauley said.
After returning from executive session, he said the board was able to have a good conversation.
“We had a very productive, encouraging conversation and we made a lot of progress,” Pauley said.
Pauley said a strong group of individuals applied for the position.
“We were encouraged by all the applicants, a lot of well-qualified individuals who have a lot of good qualities that we were able to discuss and talk about,” he said.
The board’s next meeting is on March 17 at 4:30 p.m.
