Man dead after officer-involved shooting in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A man is dead after an officer involved shooting in Parkersburg.

Police Chief Matt Board said the incident happened around 9:20 Wednesday evening when officers were dispatched to the 4,000 block of 11th Avenue where a man was reportedly brandishing a firearm.

Board said when officers arrived, they found a man outside the home holding a long gun. He repeatedly refused to comply with commands from officers to put down the gun. He soon aimed the gun at police and two officers fired on the man.

EMS quickly responded, but the suspect was dead at the scene.

West Virginia State Police are investigating the incident. The two officers involved have been placed on administrative duty as an internal investigation is conducted.
