Well-known content creator arrested in Kanawha County

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A well known online journalist and content creator has been charged in a domestic violence investigation in West Virginia.

Michael Bowman, 35, of Charlotte, North Carolina is charged with strangulation in Kanawha County Magistrate Court. Court documents indicate a complaint was filed in late August for an incident at a St. Albans apartment. Police said Bowman was accused of getting into a heated argument with a woman who lived there.

Records show the incident started when the woman contacted a former partner. In that incident, Bowman agreed to leave the apartment and police explained to the victim how to get a Domestic Violence Protective order. However, court documents also indicated a September incident which escalated in violence.

The woman told police Bowman struck her in the face, knocked her to the ground, and jumped on her and began choking her with both hands while sitting on top of her.

Court documents revealed there were two children in the home who witnessed the incident. One called 911 while the other began hitting Bowman to get him off the woman.

Bowman is well known for his work online as an independent journalist and has done a number of stories in West Virginia.
