Charleston Police identify suspect in two-hour standoff Thursday

Update 1:55: Charleston Police Department released the name of the suspect who was involved with a two-hour standoff with police early Thursday morning.

David Nathaniel Evans, 37, of Charleston was wanted on a malicious wounding charge. Police had responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment on 29th Street in North Charleston, where Evans had barricaded himself in.

Evans was wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred on February 18. He allegedly shot Damani Porter, 30, of Charleston following an altercation.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston Police say an early morning domestic disturbance turned into a two-hour standoff with police.

A suspect in the matter was known to police and was wanted on a malicious wounding warrant. Soon after police arrived, he barricaded himself inside an apartment on 29th Street in North Charleston.

Charleston Police set up communications with the man and eventually talked him into giving up. He came out peacefully just before 10 a.m. and is now in custody.

Police have lifted a shelter in place order they put into effect when the ordeal started for a one-mile radius around the apartment building.

The suspect’s name has not been released. The investigation continues.
