Work to begin on 18-month deck replacement on Ravenswood bridge

RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. — The state Division of Highways says a contractor has started a deck replacement project on the William S. Ritchie Jr. Bridge in Ravenswood which carries U.S. Route 33 over the Ohio River.

Triton Construction will be paid $11.2 million to replace with steel grid central span of the bridge with what the DOH describes as a lightweight concrete deck. The remaining spans will receive a concrete overlay.

The two-lane bridge will be reduced to one lane during the work. Traffic lights on each end of the bridge will control traffic flow.

It’s expected to take until November 2027 to complete the work.
