Fairmont State is in the mix for a new head men’s basketball coach.
Tim Koenig, head coach of the Falcons for seven seasons, is set to be named the Associate Head Coach of the men’s basketball program at Coastal Carolina.
Under the guidance of Koenig, the Falcons were 159-47 since the 2019-20 season, leaving him fourth in program history in victories and second in winning percentage.
“My family and I want to thank Fairmont State University, the administration, and the community for all of the love and support the past seven years,” Koenig said. “Fairmont State is a special place filled with friends that we will always have and cherish. To all the players and coaches over the past seven years that I had the honor to be with, THANK YOU! We accomplished some remarkable things on and off the court. I wish nothing but success to the men’s basketball program, athletic department, and Fairmont State University. This community will always hold a special place in mine and my family’s hearts.”
Fairmont State qualified for the NCAA Tournament in six of Koenig’s seven seasons and claimed Mountain East Conference Tournament titles in 2021 and 2025.
The Falcons were 108-34 in MEC play under Koenig.

The university will launch a national search for its next head men’s basketball coach, and in the interim, assistants Trent Howard and Donald Kummer will oversee day-to-day operations.
