Charleston man accused in Nitro Walmart shooting waives time requirement for preliminary hearing, new date set

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County man accused of killing a Walmart employee last week waived the time requirement for his preliminary hearing Monday after obtaining a new attorney

The magistrate then set a new hearing date of May 6 for Eric Richmond.

Eric Richmond

Richmond, 54, of Charleston, is accused of shooting and killing Misty Williams, 40, of Dunbar, a worker at the Nitro Marketplace Walmart, in the parking lot on April 13 shortly after 9 a.m. Williams died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

He has been charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators stated that Williams had gone on break but did not return, and her co-workers found her slumped over inside her car.

A criminal complaint stated that video surveillance showed Richmond inside the Walmart before the shooting and then coming outside during Williams’ break. The video also showed the car Williams was in moving forward and striking a parked vehicle. It further stated that Richmond was seen getting in and out of both sides of the car several times before fleeing the scene.

Richmond is being held in the South Central Regional Jail without bail.
