Bordas offers commitment to Mountaineers

One of the most accomplished players in West Virginia girls high school basketball history is set to continue her college career as a Mountaineer.

She also happens to be one of college basketball’s top perimeter shooters, as evidenced by accomplishments throughout a standout freshman season at Duquesne.

Alexis Bordas, one of two three-time recipients of the Mary Ostrowski Award, announced Monday night her commitment to play at West Virginia.

A former star at Wheeling Park High School, Bordas is the program’s all-time leading scorer with 2,606 points and helped lead the Patriots to a Class AAAA state championship in 2024.

Bordas signed with Duquesne out of high school and had a stellar freshman season, leading the team with 15.5 points per game and 90 three-pointers, the latter of which left her 26th nationally.

Bordas was the eighth leading scorer among all freshmen across college basketball and her 2.9 triples per game was the 12th best mark in the country.

She was also one of the nation’s top free-throw shooters at 88.2 percent (75 for 85) and recorded a team-high 48 steals for a Dukes’ squad that finished 12-19.

The addition of Bordas continues the offseason transformation of what will be a largely new-look roster.

WVU has already added transfers Divine Tshibuabua (Pitt), Zahirah Walton (George Mason), Khyala Ngodu (UCF), Skylar Forbes (Marquette), Kennedy Harris (George Mason), Nylah Wilson (Pitt), Hawa Doumbouya (VCU) and Marya Hudgins (BYU) ahead of Mark Kellogg’s fourth season as head coach.

Guards Gia Cooke and Madison Parrish are the Mountaineers’ only returning players.

The Ostrowski Award is presented annually to the top prep girls basketball player in West Virginia and Ostrowski is the only other three-time recipient.
