ALUM CREEK, W.Va. — A Wyoming County woman is in custody after state police say she tried to commit a robbery Friday morning in Lincoln County.
Troopers said Rebecca Peterson, 42, of Oceana, entered the Shell Gas Station on Little Coal River Road in Alum Creek with plans to commit a robbery. It’s alleged she’s fired multiple rounds from a gun and took off from the scene.
Troopers said she was pulled over a short time later in Kanawha County and taken into custody.
On the surveillance video (see below) you can hear a woman identifying herself as Rebecca Peterson tell the clerk to let the owner know that this is a robbery. She said it more than once and then fired the gun once. The clerk told her the owner of the store was in the backroom and she should run. Another video shows Peterson in what appears to be a storage room before going black.
There were no injuries reported.
Peterson is charged with attempted armed robbery, wanton endangerment, brandishing, assault, and destruction of property.
Peterson was awaiting arraignment in magistrate court Friday.
