WEIRTON, W.Va. –– Weirton Police are warning of fentanyl laced cocaine which is being distributed in the northern panhandle of West Virginia as well as neighboring Ohio.
Weirton Police Chief Charlie Kush said in a press release his department has dealt with six overdoses in the past week. Kush said the suspected cocaine likely had high amounts of fentanyl added without knowledge of the users.
Two of the individuals who overdosed are still hospitalized, a third has died. Members of the Hancock-Brooke-Weirton Drug Task Force are investigating and reportedly have made an arrest for the distribution of the drugs. The suspect’s name hasn’t been released.
The investigation continues.
