Wayne County jury convicts man in double murder, arson case

WAYNE COUNTY, W.Va. –A jury in Wayne County has found a man guilty on all charges in a double murder and arson case.

Joshua Morrow (WVRJA)

Joshua Morrow was convicted Monday on first-degree murder in connection to the deaths of his girlfriend, Britney Brown, 34, and her mother Erma Brown, 57. The jury also convicted Morrow of first-degree arson and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

The incident occurred in December 2024, when the women’s bodies were found while crews were responding to a house fire. According to investigators, the blaze had left the bodies unrecognizable but hadn’t concealed stab wounds.

It was also connected to an AMBER alert after Morrow and Brown’s 15th-month-old daughter was unaccounted for. The child was later found safe in Lincoln County.

Morrow was arrested by authorities in Huntington a few days after the fire.

During the trial, the jury reviewed body cam footage of Morrow being interviewed after the fire. Troopers also testified saying that Morrow did not show any genuine grief during that interview.

The same jury is now tasked with considering mercy. If given mercy, it would provide Morrow with the possibility of parole for the first-degree murder charge.
