Heavy storm produces tornado warning in Kanawha County

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for sections of northwestern Kanawha County Wednesday afternoon.

The warning was in effect for nearly a half hour before being cancelled at 4:30 p.m.

Radar indicated a tropical air mass helped create a heavy storm that hit the Sissonville, Pocatalico area and north on Interstate 77.

The Weather Service said marble-sized hail was reported.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for several counties, including Kanawha, Putnam, Lincoln and Wayne, through Wednesday evening.
