GRAFTON, W.Va. – A Grafton High School teacher faces charges for allegedly touching a child inappropriately.
Grafton Police say they were contacted by the high school on May 20 about an incident of a teacher inappropriately touching a child. Zachary Shumaker, 26, of Fairmont is charged with two felonies related to the incident in which he allegedly both touched and made sexual comments to a juvenile.
Officers were able to speak to the victim and said that Shumaker allegedly brought them into his classroom from another class and made physical contact with them while making sexually suggestive comments. He also allegedly returned after the victim went back to the original classroom and made more sexual comments of the same nature.
Shumaker is Grafton High’s head wrestling coach and was an assistant coach for the football team during the 2025 season.
He was arraigned in Taylor County Circuit Court on Thursday.
