CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A deadly shooting in the Capital City.

Charleston police said a 17-year-old boy is dead and a 15-year-old boy is charged with first-degree murder.
Charleston Deputy Police Chief Tony Hazelett said the victim was shot multiple times at around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in what investigators believe was a planned, isolated robbery attempt in the 1500 block of West Washington Street.
Hazelett said the 17-year-old was seated inside a vehicle when the shooting occurred. He was pronounced dead at a Charleston hospital.
“It was a planned isolated robbery attempt,” Hazelett said. “There is absolutely no threat to the community on the West Side in the 1500 block (of West Washington Street). They knew each other.”
Hazelett said detectives were quickly able to determine it was an attempted robbery.
“A lot of evidence, electronically, video surveillance, potential witnesses,” Hazelett said.
The 15-year-old fled the scene and police are looking for him, Hazelett said.
“There’s a juvenile pick-up order, that’s technically a warrant,” Hazelett said. “We hope to get him off the streets fairly quickly. We have several officers and other agencies looking for him.”
