CHARLESTON, W.Va. –– A teenager sought for the murder of another teen in Charleston is in custody. Charleston Police arrested the 15-year old juvenile on a charge of first degree murder.
Police had been looking for the teen with a juvenile pick-up order ever since the May 25th shooting death of a 17-year old on Charleston’s west side. The victim was shot multiple times while sitting in a car on West Washington Street near the Family Dollar store.
“He was in the North Charleston area, there’s not much I can release on the circumstances. We were just following the investigation and we were able to apprehend him,” said Charleston Deputy Police Chief Tony Hazelett.
The teen will be processed and brought before a juvenile referee to determine his detention status. It will be up to the referee to determine if he is freed on bond or is held in a local juvenile detention center.
Hazelett said discussions with the Kanawha County prosecuting attorney about possibly seeking to transfer the case to adult status have not been held.
“Not at this time, the case hasn’t been completed and fully turned over to them, but there will be discussions in the future,” he said.
The name of the suspect was not revealed since he is a juvenile. Authorities have also not released the name of the 17-year old victim who died of his wounds at a Charleston area hospital the day of the shooting.
