MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department have released details into a deadly shooting that occurred on Thursday in Sabraton.
Monongalia County Sheriff Todd Forbes announced via press release that Michael Bolyard, 55, of Aaron’s Creek Road in Dellslow, was killed after a shooting at a CVS on Earl L. Core Road.
According to the release, deputies received a report that a vehicle matching the description of Mr. Bolyard’s vehicle was in the Sabraton area less than two days after information was received that Mr. Bolyard was actively attempting to obtain a firearm.
Deputies located the vehicle at the CVS on Earl L. Core Road where Bolyard presented and discharged a firearm after deputies exited their cruiser and attempted to identify the driver.
The incident originally stems from a prior event on May 10, 2026, when Mr. Michael Bolyard, 55, of Aaron’s Creek Road, barricaded himself inside his residence and subsequently set fire to the structure. At that time, Mr. Bolyard was transported to a local medical facility for evaluation.
Following his medical release, criminal charges and an active arrest warrant were issued. Mr. Bolyard subsequently failed to appear for his scheduled court date and was being sought by law enforcement.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Investigators are currently reviewing body-worn camera footage, evaluating witness statements, and awaiting the final report from the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office.
