State Police arrest woman in alleged $18,000 bank fraud scheme

MINGO COUNTY, W.Va. –An arrest has been made in connection to a bank fraud investigation in Mingo County.

According to a West Virginia State Police release, Ashley Newsome, 37, of Lenore was arrested Monday and charged with 127 counts of fraudulent use of an access device, as well as charges of grand larceny and compute fraud.

The investigation began in August 2025, when Bobby Kolfee, 52, of Delbarton reported that approximately $18,000 had been unlawfully withdrawn from his bank account over the course of several months by an unknown individual.

Following the investigation, officers believe Newsome allegedly had obtained Kolfee’s bank card information and used it to access his account through her personal Cash App account. Newsome is out on bond.

The investigation remains ongoing.
