West Virginia has announced a three-game series in men’s basketball with Virginia Tech starting in December of the upcoming season.
The Mountaineers will welcome the Hokies on December 5, 2026, for what will be the 80th meeting in the series between regional rivals. It will be the first time WVU and Virginia Tech have played since December 2015, and the fifth instance the teams have squared off over the last 21 years.
West Virginia will make the return trip to Blacksburg to battle the Hokies on their home court at Cassell Coliseum in the 2027-28 campaign, before the two squads clash at the Charleston Coliseum in the 2028-29 season.
The Mountaineers have won 49 of 79 previous matchups against the Huskies in a series that dates back to 1921.
WVU will be heavy on Atlantic Coast Conference opponents in non-league play next season as it will face Pittsburgh on December 9 at PPG Paints Arena as well as Wake Forest on December 19 in Greensboro, N.C.
The Mountaineers are also reportedly set to face North Carolina on November 27 at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, though that contest has yet to be formally announced by either school.
Virginia Tech has a former WVU player and coach in forward Amani Hansberry and Associate Head Coach Chester Frazier, both of whom spent the 2024-25 campaign in Morgantown.
