Update: Kanawha County fatal crash came after driver was going in the wrong direction

MALDEN, W.Va. — Kanawha County deputies say the driver of an SUV was going the wrong way on U.S. Route 60 Wednesday morning when the vehicle slammed head-on into an empty coal truck.

The collission occurred at around 3:40 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near Malden, a few miles east of Charleston.

Kanawha County deputies said the driver of the SUV, who was traveling west in the eastbound lanes, died at the scene. U.S. Route 60 is four lanes in that area.

The name of the driver has not been released pending positive identification by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and notification of next of kin.

The coal truck driver was no injured.
