CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Two more West Virginia counties are receiving federal funding to recover from the devastating severe weather storms in July.

Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced Friday that Ritchie and Pleasants counties have been approved to receive federal Individual Assistance. Lewis and Upshur counties were previously approved for $4.5 million in flood relief.
“This assistance will help eligible homeowners and renters with the costs of recovering and rebuilding after these devastating storms,” Morrisey said in a release. “FEMA remains on the ground conducting damage assessments, and additional information from impacted counties continues to be reviewed.”
“We will keep working with our federal partners and fighting to make sure every eligible West Virginia community receives the assistance it needs to recover,” Morrisey added. “There is still a long road ahead, but we will continue standing with these communities every step of the way.”
Three other counties — Barbour, Doddridge, Harrison — are still awaiting word from the federal government on their request for a disaster declaration. Boone and Logan counties’ request for federal assistance for the June 22-23 flooding was denied, but Morrisey is appealing FEMA’s decision.
