Tucker County commissioners charged with using county money to purchase items that benefited one of them

PARSONS, W.Va. — All three members of the Tucker County Commission face misdemeanor criminal charges in connection with allegedly using county money to buy a crossbow and ammunition for one of them.

Misdemeanor criminal informations were filed Thursday in Tucker County Circuit Court charging Commission President Michael Rosenau, Commissioner Frederick Davis and Commissioner Timothy Knotts with one count of one count each of unauthorized expenditure by a local official.

The three allegedly approved just more than $3,990 in an Aug. 13, 2025 vote to pay Backbone Mountain Sports Center & Pawn LLC in Oakland, Maryland, for the crossbow and ammunition for Commissioner Davis’ personal benefit.

The criminal informations were filed by Special Prosecutor James Shay. State Supreme Court Chief Justice Haley Bunn has appointed Hampshire County Circuit Judge Charles Carl to hear the case.

No court dates have been scheduled.

A criminal information typically means a defendant is cooperating with the prosecution.
