WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former West Virginia State Police Superintendent Col. Jack Chambers has been confirmed as the new U.S. Marshal for Southern West Virginia.
Chambers was confirmed by the U.S. Senate Friday afternoon during a flurry of votes as senators prepare for the five-week August recess.
“The Senate just confirmed my friend Jack Chambers to serve as the U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of West Virginia,” U.S. Senator Jim Justice posted on X. “Jack has built a tremendous career in law enforcement and has spent 35 years serving the people of West Virginia.”
U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito also congratulated Chambers.
“I’m thrilled that this package included Jack Chambers as the U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of West Virginia. Colonel Chambers is extremely qualified for this position, and I am confident that he will continue to serve our state well as one of our U.S. Marshals!”
Justice was governor when he appointed Chambers as interim State Police superintendent in March 2023. The interim tag was taken off three months later. Chambers served in that position through 2024 until Gov. Patrick Morrisey took office.
Chambers previously retired from the State Police. He had risen in the ranks to Lt. Col. After his retirement, he became the deputy director of the State Capitol Police. That’s where he was when Justice made the appointment in 2023.
Chambers replaces Michael Baylous as U.S. Marshal for the Southern District. Baylous is now cabinet secretary for Homeland Security in the Morrisey administration.
