CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A line of storms caused flash flooding in and around Charleston Sunday night.
The Charleston Fire Department along with help from surrounding departments performed dozens of swift water rescues beginning at about 8:30 p.m.
Rescues were made from motorists in stuck vehicles and residents in homes along Garrison Ave., Rutledge Road, Pacific Street, Valley Grove, Greenbrier Street, Oakridge Road and several other areas.
Outside the city there were a number of rescues along Campbells Creek Drive.
There were also a number of calls to Metro 911 about downed trees and power lines. The pavement was reported gone at the intersection of Chandler Drive and Arnold Street.
The water rescue calls began to decrease by around 10:30 p.m.
The National Weather has extended a flash flood warning for Kanawha County until 5:15 a.m. Monday.
