Nitro Elementary reports playground vandalism

NITRO, W.Va – Nitro Elementary School is dealing with vandalism on school property and, in a social media post, said middle and high school students are responsible.

The post from Nitro Elementary states older students have been at the school’s playground after hours and left “highly offensive and inappropriate graffiti” on picnic tables. The school also says portions of picnic tables and playground equipment have been burned, a trash can was set on fire, and broken glass was found throughout the playground.

If it cannot be safely cleaned and secured, the school indicated the playground would be closed. School officials are reviewing security footage and ask anyone who sees suspicious activity on school property or knows who may be responsible to contact the school or Nitro police.
