Taylor County woman charged in assault on elderly disabled woman

GRAFTON, W.Va. — Taylor County sheriff’s deputies used surveillance cameras to make an arrest in a case of suspected elder abuse.

Deputies said Matha Dambaugh, 57, was babysitting a child in the home of an 83-year old incapacitated adult female. Surveillance video captured Dambaugh hitting the woman eight times.

Residents in the home told deputies Dambaugh was aware the elderly woman was suffering from dementia and relied on others for care.

Dambuagh admitted to deputies that she hit the woman in the head but could recall how many times.

Dambaugh has been charged with abuse of an incapacitated adult and is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $20,000 bond.
