Barbour County deputies respond to student incident at Philip Barbour High School

PHILIPPI, W.Va. — Barbour County sheriff’s deputies responded to Philip Barbour High School on Monday after a student behavioral incident.

Deputies said the student had become violent, leading to a prevention resource officer from the sheriff’s department arriving on the scene. That officer suffered a minor injury in the incident.

The Barbour County Sheriff’s Department released the following statement:

“Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of everyone in the building, additional law enforcement officers and EMS were called to assist. As a precaution, the school was placed on a hold while the situation was safely resolved. Once everything was under control and it was determined that the school was safe, the hold was lifted.”

The injured officer has been cleared to return to duty.
