BELMONT, OHIO — Union Local running back Brody Perzanowski found the end zone three times as the Jets (5-0) handed Wheeling Central Catholic their third consecutive loss, 24-13. The Maroon Knights (1-3) have dropped three consecutive games since winning their season opener.
Perzanowksi scored on a 73-yard touchdown run on the game’s first play from scrimmage, giving the Jets a 6-0 lead.
From there, both defenses would settle in, making fourth down stops deep in their own territory. Midway through the second quarter, the Jets got back on the scoreboard when Evan Poziviak completed a screen pass to Perzanowski. He scampered 43 yards to the end zone. The ensuing 2-point conversion gave ULHS a 14-0 lead.
With less than two minutes to play in the first half, Wheeling Central’s special teams supplied their first points of the game. Freshman Wyatt Stephens returned a punt 76 yards for a touchdown, cutting the Maroon Knight deficit in half at intermission, 14-7.
Union Local answered back on their first possession of the second half with a 5-yard touchdown tote from Perzanowski. The Jets led 21-7 through three quarters.
A 32-yard field goal off the right foot of Jeff Bolon extended the Union Local lead to 24-7 early in the fourth quarter. Central responded with their best offensive possession of the game. A lengthy drive was capped by a 13-yard touchdown run from Dustin Sanner, pulling the Maroon Knights within 11 points at 24-13.
However, the Jets would not give the ball back. They chewed up the final six minutes on the clock, bringing the game to a close.
Perzanowski rushed for 221 yards in the victory.
The three teams to defeat the Maroon Knights this season have a combined record of 12-1. Wheeling Central’s three-game losing streak is the program’s longest since the start of the 2017 season.
