New trial date in sex-related case involving former Calhoun County commissioner

GRANTSVILLE, W.Va. — A judge has scheduled a new trial date for former Calhoun County Commissioner Jacob McCumbers.

Jacob McCumbers

McCumbers, who was also a school teacher, faces 250 criminal counts in connection with allegations that he sexually assaulted a child over a nine-year period.

Both the prosecution and defense telling the judge Thursday during a pretrial hearing there’s a lot of information to go through and it would be difficult to meet the original trial date.

McCumbers, 39, of Arnoldburg, was set to go on trial beginning Oct. 27 and now that’s been pushed back to Dec. 8. The trial will be held in Roane County.

McCumbers, who left the commission and the teaching profession after the charges were filed, remains free on bond.
