HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The jury has been set for the trial of a Huntington man charged with killing his 3-month-old child five years ago.
Shannon Overstreet, 53, is on trial in Cabell County Circuit Court for the murder of his infant daughter, Angel. Huntington police said Overstreet killed the child and disposed of the body on a Kentucky farm after buying a barrel, a gas can, and firewood from a Rural King. Prosecutors say the infant’s bone fragments were found in the barrel on the farm.
Overstreet was indicted in December three years ago on three charges: death of a child by parent, guardian or custodian or other persons by child abuse, murder, and concealment of a human body. The indictment came seven months after the infant went missing.
Circuit Judge David Amsbary heard opening arguments from prosecutor Philip Morrison and Overstreet’s attorney Kerry Nessel on Monday.
The trial resumes Tuesday at 9 a.m.
